Rosendo Manrique, a 24-year-old Latino man, was shot and killed on March 9, 2008, in Val Verde, California. The shooting happened about 12:13 a.m. in the 28700 block of Lincoln Street during a birthday party where a confrontation between Manrique and another Latino man turned violent. The other man drew a handgun and fired multiple shots. Manrique was struck several times and later pronounced dead at a hospital; a second Latino man injured in the shooting was listed in stable condition.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide detectives investigated but the shooter’s identity remained unknown and no arrest was announced at the time. Detectives worked to gather evidence and interview witnesses while the community and Manrique’s family sought answers. The investigation is described as active, with periodic reviews of new leads.
Did anyone at the party or in the neighborhood see or hear anything that could help identify the shooter?
