Hey everyone,
I can’t stop thinking about the bravery Detective Kent Haws showed on that tragic day. It’s clear he was deeply committed to his work and the safety of his community. Approaching strangers in an unfamiliar situation takes a lot of courage, and it’s heartbreaking that such dedication led to such a tragedy.
As a community, I feel like we should be doing more to support each other and our officers who put themselves in harm's way every day. I'm reminded of the nurse who stopped to help Detective Haws after he was shot—what an incredible act of kindness and humanity in such a dire moment. It goes to show that, even amid terrible events, there are people willing to step in and help.
Does anyone know if there’s a memorial or community event in his honor that the local department or community holds annually? I'd love to participate or support it in any way I can. Keeping his memory alive and supporting his family seems like the least we can do for someone who gave so much.

I'm thinking a lot about the incredible bravery it must have taken for Detective Kent Haws to consistently put himself in potentially dangerous situations as part of his job. It’s a sobering reminder of how law enforcement officers often face the unimaginable, all in the line of duty to keep communities a bit safer. I can’t help but feel for his family and colleagues who had to endure not just the tragedy of his loss, but also the protracted legal process that followed.
The fact that Banda was a known gang member with a troubling past makes me thankful that the justice system was able to remove such a dangerous individual from society. It brings some degree of closure, but the loss is undoubtedly still felt by all who loved Detective Haws. Moments like these make you realize how precious life is and just how important community support can be. Sending thoughts of strength and solidarity to Detective Haws' family and all the officers who step up to protect others despite the risks.
