Hermilo Talamantez III, a 34-year-old Latino man, was shot and killed on September 25, 2007, in Val Verde, California. The shooting took place about 8 p.m. in the 3500 block of Arlington Street after a dispute between neighbors that began as a verbal argument and turned physical. Both men went home and returned armed; Clarence Pullum, 38, fired the fatal shot. Talamantez was taken to Henry Mayo Hospital, where he died.
The conflict was described as personal rather than racially motivated and reportedly grew out of an earlier disagreement involving a brother-in-law of one of the men. Both parties had known each other since childhood in the small, isolated rural community. Pullum was arrested after the shooting and later released pending further investigation while prosecutors considered whether to file charges.
Does anyone who lived in Val Verde at the time remember the events or the dispute between the families?
