Antwanisha Morgan was a 17-year-old volunteer at a Bayview community youth center when she was shot and killed on March 16, 2007, outside the center in San Francisco. Known as Nisha to family and friends, she was preparing to graduate from South San Francisco High School and hoped to study forensics and criminal justice in college.

Investigators described her as an innocent bystander caught in crossfire during gang violence. Four teenagers from a Potrero Hill gang were implicated; prosecutors said they had gone looking for Bayview youths after feeling disrespected at a talent show two weeks earlier. In January 2009 a San Francisco Juvenile Court judge found all four guilty of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and gang-related crimes. The defendants had been tried as juveniles; they could not be held in juvenile custody past age 25.

The defense argued the prosecution had not proven gang membership or direct involvement and said the suspects were only in the area by coincidence. The family and community urged more cooperation with law enforcement to address gang violence. Does anyone have memories of Antwanisha or information about the Bayview community around that time?
