Irma Martinez was 47 when she was fatally shot on July 16, 2005, in Pico Rivera, California. She had been staying at her father’s house after separating from her husband, Armando Martinez, earlier that year. The shooting happened in the driveway while Irma was talking with a friend, Eric Hernandez; Hernandez was shot in the shoulder and survived.

Armando Martinez approached, shot Irma in the head, and fled to Tijuana, Mexico, where he was arrested and later extradited to the United States in May 2006. Prosecutors presented evidence of prior domestic violence, including an incident in 1999 in which Armando slapped Irma in front of their daughter and threatened to kill her if she left. In August 2007 Armando was convicted of first-degree murder and attempted murder and received multiple life terms.

If anyone knew Irma, Eric Hernandez, or the family’s situation before July 16, 2005, please share information that might add context to this case.
