I was thinking about Jacob Faust today. It's been years since that tragic night in the Gaslamp District, yet the details still haunt many in our community. It's hard not to think about how things might have turned out differently if communication had been clearer, or if the officers involved had more training in de-escalation techniques. It’s especially tough because we're talking about a young man who loved performing in puppet shows, just trying to make his way in the world. To his family and friends, if you’re reading this, please know that you're not alone. There are many of us who still remember Jacob and are committed to pushing for change, so his death was not in vain. Hopefully, one day, we’ll get the answers and accountability everyone deserves. Until then, I'll be taking part in next week's vigil—to remember Jacob and to remind others that his story is an important part of the conversation about police and community relations. Stay strong, everyone.

Does anyone else feel like the decision to deem the officers' actions in Jacob Faust's case as "legally justified" just doesn’t sit right? I understand that in those high-pressure situations, officers have to make split-second decisions, but it’s hard to shake the feeling that something went wrong. Jacob's family has been remarkably strong and persistent in their quest for justice and change, and it really makes me think about how these incidents are investigated. The fact that advocacy groups are still rallying for reform shows that there might be deeper systemic issues at play that need addressing. It’s just incredibly sad knowing that a life was lost over what turned out to be a toy. My heart goes out to Jacob’s family, and I hope their continued efforts help bring about some much-needed changes. Anyone else have thoughts on how community pressure can lead to these reforms?
