Mauro Lujano Lopez, a 26-year-old Latino man, was shot and killed on March 5, 2005, in the 700 block of 10th Street in Hermosa Beach, California. The Los Angeles County coroner’s report lists gunshot wounds as the cause of death. The Hermosa Beach Police Department led the investigation with assistance from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Witnesses in the area reported hearing gunshots, but early accounts provided little information about the shooter or a motive. Law enforcement repeatedly sought tips from the public and periodically revisited the case, re-examining evidence and following leads.
