Mario Larios, 23, of West Covina, was fatally shot on January 27, 2004, after answering an ad for a customized Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Larios, along with two others who responded to the same ad, met the seller at a gas station and followed him to a home on Inez Street in South Whittier. The three men were shot and robbed there; their bodies were later found in Larios’ leased Mercedes Benz abandoned behind a La Mirada shopping center.
Prosecutors say the seller, identified as Cimarron Bell, and an accomplice, Briaell Lee, set the meeting as a trap to rob Latino men. Authorities allege Bell shot Larios as he tried to flee through a door. Investigators reportedly recovered DNA and blood evidence tying Bell to the killings. Larios left behind a fiancée, Gloria Pineda, and a young son, Eduardo, who later required therapy after learning what had happened.
Does anyone have memories of the Inez Street area or the La Mirada shopping center from late January 2004 that could add detail to the timeline?
