Deputy Sheriff David William March, 33, was killed on April 29, 2002, during a traffic stop on Live Oak Avenue just east of Peck Road in Irwindale, California. While standing in front of his patrol car the morning of the stop, he was shot multiple times in the head and chest by the driver he had pulled over; the assailant then fled the scene.

Investigators identified the suspect as 25-year-old Armando Garcia, who had prior convictions and had been deported several times. Garcia fled to Mexico and remained at large for nearly four years before U.S. Marshals and Mexican federal agents arrested him in Mexico on February 23, 2006. He was extradited to California, pled guilty to second-degree murder on March 2, 2007, and was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.

Deputy March had served seven years with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and was remembered by colleagues and the community for his dedication. Does anyone have information about Deputy March’s final shift or the traffic stop that could shed more light on what happened?
