Maria Hsiao, a 21-year-old art student from Palo Alto, was shot and killed just after midnight on June 10, 2001, outside the Q Cafe nightclub while celebrating her 21st birthday with her older sister and friends. The group—between 10 and 20 people that night, including friends, bouncers and other patrons—was standing outside the club when a single gunshot struck Maria in the head. She died on the operating table despite efforts by police and paramedics.
The murder weapon was never recovered and, despite a long investigation and repeated public appeals, no one has been identified or arrested. The Palo Alto Police Department has released videos and offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Maria’s father, David Hsiao, who was ill at the time, made finding his daughter’s killer his final wish; her family continues to seek justice and answers.
There were witnesses at the scene but no one has come forward with information that led to a suspect. Does anyone who was at Q Cafe that night or who knew Maria have information that could help resolve this case?
