Teresa Gomez Madrigal, a 33-year-old mother of four from Riverside, California, was found shot to death on February 24, 1999, near the entrance to Lake Poway, more than 60 miles from her home. She had gone grocery shopping on February 23, 1999, and did not return; her body was discovered the following day.
A month later her 1993 Toyota Camry was recovered in a parking lot seven miles from her residence. The car’s back seat was covered in blood and there was a bullet hole in the roof, suggesting a violent struggle occurred. Despite extensive investigations by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, no suspects have been identified and no arrests reported.
A $50,000 reward was announced by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2019 and San Diego County Crime Stoppers has offered up to $1,000 for tips. If anyone has information about Teresa’s movements on February 23–24, 1999, or about the abandoned Camry, please come forward.
