Paul Vu was 16 when he was killed on August 1, 1995. He was one of three victims in a car-to-car shooting on the 10 Freeway near Temple City Boulevard after leaving a cafe on Peck Road. The attack was carried out by members of the Asian Boyz gang, who reportedly mistook Paul and his friends Cheng Peng and Ben Liao for members of a rival Taiwanese-based gang. The victims had been followed by three carloads of gang members, leading to the fatal confrontation.

Investigators connected the shooting to a wider crime spree attributed to the Asian Boyz that included multiple murders, attempted murders, and kidnappings. Several gang members were later arrested and convicted in relation to those crimes, including Pierre Mercado, who was convicted of first-degree murder for the killings of Paul, Cheng, and Ben. The prosecutions underscored the severe toll the violence took on the victims and their families.

If anyone knew Paul, Cheng, or Ben, or has information about the shooting that has not been shared with investigators, please come forward.
