Nadine Joyce Mendonca, 25, disappeared after a night out at Jake’s Saloon on Pleasant Street in Fall River on July 12, 1991. Witnesses say she spent the evening playing pool and darts with friends and left the bar with a man who later told police she had given him a ride to his New Bedford home and then drove away. Investigators checked his alibi but had no further leads.
Two weeks after she vanished, Nadine’s brown 1980 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was found abandoned in Weld Square, New Bedford. The driver’s side window had been smashed and blood in the trunk was later identified by DNA as Nadine’s, prompting concern that she suffered foul play. Her body has never been found and the case remains unsolved. Renewed investigative efforts using advanced DNA technology were made in 2018, without publicly reported breakthroughs. Both parents died without knowing what happened; her brother Shawn continues to seek answers.
If anyone knew Nadine, saw her car in New Bedford in July 1991, or has information about that night, please share what you know.
