Tracy Allen Toovey, 35, was shot to death on April 14, 1989, at the Grand Cru Winery in Glen Ellen, Sonoma, California. He worked there as a winemaker and was killed during a mass murder spree carried out by a co-worker, Ramon Salcido.
Investigators and prosecutors portrayed the attacks as driven by Salcido’s delusional belief that his wife Angela was having an affair with Toovey; the defense argued Salcido’s judgment was impaired by drugs and alcohol. Salcido was arrested, convicted of multiple counts of murder, and sentenced to death; he is incarcerated on death row at San Quentin State Prison.
Carmina Salcido survived severe injuries in the killings; the case record notes the long impact on surviving family members. If anyone knew Tracy Toovey, worked with him at Grand Cru, or has information about his death, please share what can help piece together his last day.
