Ronald Lewis Ron Ruse, 28, was shot to death outside his Carlsbad, California, apartment on December 14, 1987. Witnesses heard several shots and Ruse was struck while attempting to flee, including a wound to his back.
Ricchio later surrendered and claimed she had intended to kill herself in front of Ruse and that a struggle caused the gun to fire; she also testified at trial that she did not remember firing the additional shots and that the killing was not premeditated. The jury convicted her of murder and she was sentenced to prison. Attempts at parole have been repeatedly sought and denied, including a 2017 finding of suitability that was reversed by Governor Jerry Brown in 2018; Ricchio’s 2019 hearing was waived.
Are there witnesses, neighbors, or others who remember the events around the Carlsbad apartment on December 14, 1987 who could add details?
