Ruben Lucky Williams was a coin shop owner in Vacaville, California, who was shot in the head and killed during a robbery at his shop on November 1, 1986. His death fits a pattern from the 1980s in which several coin shop owners were attacked and murdered; the assailant in Williams’s case was later linked to that series of crimes.
Authorities connected Williams’s killing to Charles T. Sinclair, known as the Coin Shop Killer, whose reported method was to frequent coin shops, gain the owners’ trust as a regular customer, then strike near closing time with a small‑caliber weapon aimed at the head to eliminate witnesses before robbing the shop. Sinclair was tied to multiple homicides of coin shop owners across the western United States and Canada and was arrested on August 13, 1990.
Does anyone who knew Ruben or worked at coin shops in Vacaville during the 1980s have memories or information to share?
