Lela Ellen Reed Kneiding, born August 20, 1918 in Iowa, lived much of her life in Glendale, California. She married Maxson Carl Kneiding on August 29, 1938 and the couple lived in the Los Angeles area.
On July 20, 1985 Lela, then 66, was found shot to death in her Glendale home; her husband Maxson was also shot and killed in the same incident. Their murders were attributed to Richard Ramirez, the so-called Night Stalker, who was later apprehended and charged with multiple counts of murder including the Kneidings’ deaths.
The case formed part of a wider investigation into a series of violent crimes across Southern California in the mid-1980s that deeply affected survivors and victims’ families. Does anyone have memories of the Kneidings or information about them that could add context to this case?
