Horacio Ariza Jr., 20, was shot dead on October 18, 1984, while working as a clerk at a drive-through dairy in Garden Grove, California. His killing was one of four connected murders committed during a weeks-long crime spree in October and November 1984 by Teofilo Medina Jr.
Medina’s spree also included the killings of Douglas Michael Metal, a clerk at a Santa Ana gas station; Victor Rea, who was killed during a robbery; and Craig Martin, an 18-year-old night cashier at an Arco station in Corona. Reports say Medina had been released from the Arizona Corrections Department three months before the attacks. After his arrest, he was convicted of the murders and sentenced to death; his defense raised mental illness and low IQ claims, but Medina was found legally sane.
Anyone who knew Horacio, worked at the drive-through dairy, or has memories of Garden Grove in October 1984 is asked to share information or recollections that might help preserve his memory.
