Park Police Officer Howard Shao Wai Huang, 42, was ambushed and killed on March 11, 1984, while seated in his patrol car on the 12900 block of South Broadway Street in Garden Grove, California. He was working the graveyard shift for the South Central Region when unknown assailants fired more than 20 rounds from behind with an AK-47. The attackers stole his service revolver and his patrol car, which was recovered about two miles away.

Officer Huang had served eight years with the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation Police. Despite extensive investigations, the perpetrators were never apprehended and the case remains unsolved. His family, including children who were very young at the time, and colleagues have continued to mark his sacrifice and seek justice.
