Phyllis Melendez, a 20-year-old resident of Burlingame, California, was killed on April 28, 1983. Her death was one of a series of brutal murders that took place in a Burlingame warehouse, where the perpetrator lured victims, many of them sex workers, under various pretenses. Reports say the victims suffered extreme violence; methods described in the case include beating, stabbing and shooting, and some bodies were placed in metal drums filled with concrete and later discarded in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
The investigation led to the arrest of Anthony Jack Sully on August 25, 1983. Sully, a former police officer, had worked in law enforcement from 1966 to 1974, later became involved in the escort business and struggled with drug addiction; his history also included domestic violence. A San Mateo County jury convicted him in July 1986 for the string of killings that included Melendez; he was sentenced to death.
Does anyone have information about Phyllis’s life in Burlingame or her movements in April 1983 that could help fill gaps in the timeline?
