Harriette Wolfers, 68, died in San Francisco on November 9, 1981. Her death was first reported as natural, but later forensic testing detected a toxic substance not consistent with her known medications, and the San Francisco Police Department opened a homicide investigation.
Investigators identified a close acquaintance with a history of financial disputes with Wolfers as the primary suspect after finding inconsistencies in that person’s alibi and financial records. Evidence gathered during the inquiry and forensic analysis led to the suspect’s arrest on a charge of first-degree murder. At trial the prosecution relied on the forensic findings and witness testimony; the defense called the evidence circumstantial. The jury convicted the defendant and imposed life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
Are there readers who remember Harriette or who knew about her legal or financial disputes and can share details that might add context to the case?
