Dennis Frank Webb was a 30-year-old San Fernando Police Department officer who was killed on December 24, 1980. Webb, a five-year department veteran and a Vietnam War veteran who was honorably discharged in 1975, was on duty when he encountered a man matching the description of an armed robbery suspect from a convenience store robbery about 90 minutes earlier. During questioning the suspect shot Officer Webb multiple times at close range. The assailant then took Webb’s patrol car and abandoned it in a nearby park. Webb was taken to a local hospital but died during surgery.
Webb left behind his wife, Nancy; they had no children. The investigation involved multiple law enforcement agencies, and the case had a profound effect on the San Fernando community. Anyone with information about Webb, the suspect, or the events of December 24, 1980 is asked to come forward.
