On June 23, 1980, 24-year-old Karen Jones was found fatally shot in the head with a small-caliber pistol behind a steakhouse in Burbank, California. Earlier that morning, between about 2:00 and 2:30 a.m., an officer encountered Jones on Sunset Boulevard and warned her about loitering; hours later she was dead.
Jones had recently moved to Los Angeles from Little Rock, Arkansas, and was working as a sex worker. A coroner determined she died within a one- to two-hour window on June 23, the same timeframe in which the headless body of 20-year-old Exxie Wilson, a friend and fellow sex worker who had also moved from Little Rock, was found near a dumpster in Studio City.
Investigators later linked these killings to Douglas Clark and Carol Bundy, who became known as the Sunset Strip Killers; Clark was convicted of multiple first-degree murders including Jones and Wilson, and Bundy pleaded guilty to two murders and received lengthy prison terms. Did anyone who knew Karen in Los Angeles or Little Rock have information about her life in the weeks before June 23, 1980?
