Clara Louise Rose, 31, was found dead in her Los Gatos townhome on January 19, 1979. Her body was discovered in the front hallway in a pool of blood; the autopsy showed two close-range gunshot wounds to the head, blunt-force trauma to the head, and strangulation. There were no signs of forced entry and robbery was ruled out.
On the night she died, her fiancé, a San Jose physician, reported attending a work dinner and returning home to find her unresponsive; he called 911 and became a person of interest who was interviewed repeatedly but never arrested. Clara’s estranged husband, John Rose, was questioned early on but later cleared by investigators with a solid alibi. No weapon or DNA evidence was recovered and the case eventually went cold despite periodic reviews by the Los Gatos Monte Sereno Police Department.
Clara was a Missouri native who had graduated from San Jose State University in 1978 with a degree in journalism and had been working on a book about Missouri history. Does anyone remember seeing Clara around the Los Gatos Woods Townhouse Development in January 1979 or have information that could help her family find answers?
