Franswhaun C. Smith, a 42-year-old Black man from Baltimore, was found with a single stab wound to his back on Murphy Lane near Myrtle Avenue in the Heritage Crossing neighborhood on a Friday morning late August 2016. Police were dispatched about 7:50 a.m. after a report that someone was not breathing; Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy confirmed the wound was fatal and investigators treated the death as a homicide.
Authorities publicly described little beyond those core facts: the location, time of discovery, the single stab wound, and an appeal from detectives for anyone with information to contact Metro Crime Stoppers. The record lists Smith’s dates as December 13, 1973 to August 26, 2016.
Did anyone in Heritage Crossing that morning see or hear something that could help explain what happened to Franswhaun Smith?
