Jane Holly was 45 and lived in San Francisco when she was shot and killed on January 28, 1974. She worked for Wells Fargo Bank and was at the Lightning Coin Launderette on Silver Avenue, pulling clothes from a dryer, when someone shot her in the back.
Her killing was one of a series of racially motivated attacks in San Francisco in late 1973 and early 1974 commonly called the Zebra murders. The city launched a large manhunt; several suspects were arrested and charged with multiple counts of first-degree murder, including Jesse Cooks, Larry Green, Manuel Moore, and J.C.X. Simons. Manuel Moore was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Jane Holly’s death became part of the broader story of violence and fear during the Zebra murders. If anyone knew Jane or has information about her life or the events that day, please come forward.
