Eric Daugherty, 41, was found dead inside a Walnut Street residence in Dunnellon, Florida, on November 28, 2022. Deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office discovered him in the living room with gunshot wounds and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner determined the cause of death to be gunshot wounds to the abdomen.

Investigators say Daugherty was not a resident of Dunnellon and it is unclear why he was at that home. Two 9mm shell casings were recovered; witnesses reported the shooter stood from a table, pointed a firearm at a sleeping Daugherty on the couch, and shot him twice. The shooting drew unusual attention as the first homicide in Dunnellon in over three decades.

Authorities identified 42-year-old Brian Keron Welcome, known as Rockafeller, as a suspect. Welcome, a convicted felon, was arrested February 9, 2023, and charged with second-degree murder and possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon; he is being held without bond.
