On November 19, 2022, 43-year-old Dylan James Baker of North Port, Florida, was shot dead at the Grande Court Apartments on Greenwood Avenue. Officers who responded to a 9-1-1 call around 9 a.m. found Baker with a fatal gunshot wound to his abdomen; he crawled toward the front door of the apartment before succumbing to his injuries.
Witnesses reported an argument between Baker and 51-year-old Modero Cruz. According to the police narrative, Cruz walked to his room, loaded a single bullet into a 9mm pistol, returned to Baker’s room, and shot him. Cruz was arrested and booked into the Sarasota County Jail on a charge of second-degree murder. Investigators interviewed people at the scene and gathered evidence; police say Baker and Cruz knew each other and the shooting arose from a dispute.
If anyone witnessed the incident or has information about the dispute between Baker and Cruz, please share what is known.
