Marsha Ebanks-Williams, 48, was shot and killed in her DeLand, Florida home on September 18, 2022, during a domestic dispute that also killed her 28-year-old son, Robert Adams. The deaths occurred after an argument with her ex-husband, Michael D. Williams, who had shut off the house power earlier that day and locked the electrical panel; investigators say the victims had restored power and put a new lock on the panel before the confrontation.

Williams called 911 that night and told dispatch he had shot Marsha Ebanks-Williams and Robert Adams in self-defense. Deputies found him sitting in a vehicle in the driveway; he surrendered and was later arrested. Adams’ two young children, ages 5 and 6, were in the house and were not physically harmed.

Detectives reported Williams had only minor superficial scratches and no significant injuries to support a protracted physical attack. He was charged with two counts of second-degree murder with a firearm, tried, and the jury found him guilty; he received two consecutive life terms. The prosecution was handled by Assistant State Attorney Mark Interlicchio and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office led the investigation.

Did anyone in the DeLand community know more about the couple’s long-running property dispute or the family dynamics that preceded this violence?
