Shane Eugene Clements, 41, of Altoona, Florida, was killed by gunshot wounds and found dead at a residence on Pennsylvania Avenue on the evening of August 25, 2022. He and 34-year-old David Thomas Mikell were discovered by deputies after a 911 call reporting a shooting around 9 p.m. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office says the incident was not random and that the suspects did not live at the home.

Authorities arrested 35-year-old Roger Myles Gilbert of Alabama, then in custody in Volusia County on unrelated charges, and charged him with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the deaths. Gilbert had fled a traffic stop in Ormond Beach, crashed, ran on foot and was found with a stolen firearm; he was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed firearm and resisting an officer without violence. Motive has not been disclosed and the investigation remains open.

Shane was remembered as a loving father, son and friend who enjoyed working on vehicles, the Chicago Bears and NASCAR and who worked as a truck driver for Road Master. Does anyone with information about the shooting or the people involved want to come forward to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office?
