Tommy Leon Brothers, 21, of Mims, Florida, was shot and killed on August 22, 2022 during a drug transaction on Cypress Avenue. Surveillance video shows a man identified as 27-year-old Corey Ward of Titusville patting down Brothers, taking a box from the trunk, reentering a vehicle, and then Brothers approaching the driver’s side window when he was suddenly shot. Brothers suffered gunshot wounds to the chest, shoulder, and left leg and was pronounced dead at Parrish Medical Center.

Deputies from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, aided by a witness, located and stopped the vehicle near State Road 46 and Interstate 95 and arrested Ward along with a woman and another man. Ward declined to speak without a lawyer; the other two occupants gave inconsistent accounts and suggested Brothers may have had a gun, though no weapon was found on or near him. Ward was charged with first-degree premeditated murder and robbery with a firearm and is being held without bond. The investigation remains ongoing.
