Jeremiah Emmanuel Jordan Brown, 22, of Ventura, California, was killed on July 21, 2022, in Davenport, Florida, while on vacation with his family. The family had been staying in an Airbnb and had rented a Mercedes for the trip. Deputies responded to reports of an unresponsive man and found Jeremiah with a gunshot wound; he was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office classified the death as a homicide.
Investigators say Jeremiah was carjacked while walking to a store and shot in the abdomen. He was found lying in the roadway with scrapes consistent with being pushed or having jumped from a moving vehicle. Surveillance footage reportedly captured suspects’ vehicles leaving the neighborhood and a gunshot; a stolen Mercedes was later recovered and a 9mm casing and blood were found inside the car.
Nearly a month after the killing, authorities arrested 20-year-old Tyrell Johnson of Orlando and charged him with murder during a carjacking, carjacking with a deadly weapon, and grand theft auto; a 17-year-old accomplice also faced charges. Jeremiah’s mother, Ventura councilwoman Lorrie Brown, traveled to Florida and has spoken about the family’s devastation and concerns about gun violence and safety for tourists in vacation rentals. If anyone saw activity in that Davenport neighborhood on July 21, 2022, or has information about the carjacking, please share what is known with investigators.
