Joseph M. Malone, 53, of Newberry, Florida, was found dead the night of June 16, 2022, in the 24000 block of SW 30th Avenue near Champions Park. Deputies from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office discovered Malone lying on the ground beside a vehicle with a fatal gunshot wound. The circumstances leading to the shooting were initially unclear and prompted an immediate homicide investigation by ACSO detectives.

ACSO publicly asked for anyone with information to come forward, offering anonymity and potential rewards for tips that could lead to an arrest. Months after the killing the department continued to pursue leads and gather evidence, and no immediate suspects or arrests were identified. The case remains an active investigation.
