Xavier Antonio Johnson, 29, of St. Petersburg, Florida, was fatally shot during a drug deal at an Airbnb on Acorn Court in Davenport on April 13, 2022. Authorities say Johnson and associates had been using the rental to sell marijuana since April 8. Surveillance footage shows two men entering the home around 8:30 p.m. and shooting Johnson; three men were then seen carrying his body out and taking him to Heart of Florida Hospital, where he later died.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29-year-old Justin Jenkins in Volusia County and charged him with first-degree murder, armed robbery, shooting into an occupied dwelling, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery and other counts. A second defendant, 32-year-old Carlos Barada of Daytona Beach, was indicted and arrested in November 2022 on first-degree murder, armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after a traffic stop in which he resisted. Deputies released video of Jenkins and an unidentified man fleeing the scene and are still seeking information on that second suspect. Johnson’s family, including his two young daughters, mourns his loss.
