Jared Galen Bridegan, 33, was shot and killed on February 16, 2022, in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. He had been driving home after dropping off his older twins at his ex-wife’s house and was transporting his 2-year-old daughter in the backseat. Jared stopped his vehicle between Jacksonville Drive and Sanctuary Boulevard to move a tire deliberately placed in the road; after exiting the car he was shot multiple times and died. His toddler was unharmed but witnessed the shooting from her car seat.

Investigators later described the killing as part of a premeditated plot. A 61-year-old, Henry Tenon, was arrested in January 2023 on charges including conspiracy to commit murder, second-degree murder with a weapon, accessory after the fact to a capital felony, and child abuse; he pleaded guilty and agreed to testify against others. That cooperation led to the arrest of Mario Fernandez Saldana, 34, charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, solicitation to commit a capital felony, and child abuse. Jared’s ex-wife, Shanna Gardner, was arrested and indicted on the same charges as Saldana; both have pleaded not guilty and prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
