Seventeen-year-old Jandel Rodriguez, a Hispanic/Latino student at Orange Park High School who had spent time in foster care, was found dead on a walkway near Clermont Avenue and Bonnlyn Drive in Orange Park on the afternoon of January 2, 2022. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office determined he died from a gunshot wound to the chest. Family described him as loving and close with his older sister Bella, who said she was due to pick him up to move to Fresno just days after his death.

Investigators concluded the shooting grew out of an ongoing dispute between Jandel and several other teenagers and say surveillance video, witness interviews, and text messages point to a premeditated ambush. Two 17-year-olds, Andrew Neeper and Dejerrick Gillum, were arrested first; two 18-year-olds, Christopher Walters and Deashaun Green, were arrested in February 2022. Authorities allege all four played roles in a murder plot, with Neeper accused of firing the fatal shot and the others acting in support or as lookouts.

Court proceedings were pending in the case as of September 2023. Did anyone in Orange Park know Jandel or have information about the dispute that led to this killing?
