Angelica Angie Le, 29, of Crestview, Florida, was killed on September 19, 2021, in the early morning hours in the parking lot of the Bel Aire Terrace apartments. Two children witnessed the shooting but were reported unharmed.

After the shooting Washington drove off with the children and later appeared at a Waffle House in Milton, Florida, where he told an employee he had shot Le and asked that police be called. Santa Rosa County deputies arrested him and the children were recovered and returned to family. Washington was charged with first-degree murder, shooting a deadly weapon into a vehicle, violation of an injunction order, and two counts of aggravated child abuse. A domestic violence protection order issued earlier in the year had prohibited Washington from possessing a firearm or coming within 100 feet of Le’s car.
