On August 23, 2021, 23-year-old Lyndon Dawson of Monticello, Florida, was found in the East Clark Avenue area suffering from gunshot wounds alongside 21-year-old Jamien Davis. Both men died at the scene. Investigators concluded that Dawson and Davis had shot each other.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office led the response and worked with the State Attorney’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. A 15-year-old suspect, identified as Christian Venisee, was arrested and originally charged in connection with the incident. Subsequent investigation led to the murder charge being dropped; other charges related to shooting into a building, tampering with evidence, and possession of a firearm by a delinquent were filed, and a plea and sentence followed.

The deaths deeply affected the Monticello community. Anyone with information about what happened that night is asked to contact investigators.
