Charles Edward Collingwood was 20 when he disappeared from Brevard Correctional Institution in Titusville, Florida, on December 12, 1979. He was serving a four-year sentence for car theft and was working on a landscaping detail outside the prison when he asked a guard to use the restroom and never returned. Some of his clothes were recovered in nearby woods during the search, but no other trace of him has been found and he has been presumed to have escaped.

A major suspect in the case was prison guard John Rodney McRae, who had a criminal history including a 1950s murder conviction in Michigan and was later convicted of another murder in 1987. Investigators suspected McRae may have had an inappropriate relationship with Collingwood; McRae denied that, saying Collingwood was an informant for him. Authorities believed foul play was possible and suspected McRae, but were unable to prove his involvement before his death in prison in 2005 and the case remains open and unresolved.

Did anyone who knew Collingwood at the prison or saw the landscaping detail that day ever come forward with information?
