Jesse Hargis, 25, died on June 23, 2021, after being shot during a domestic-related dispute at a Reeves Drive residence in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Deputies from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office found Hargis about 9:30 p.m. with a gunshot wound to his stomach; he was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center where he later died.
His girlfriend, 30-year-old Haley Haire, said Hargis was intoxicated and an argument followed. Haire reportedly took some of Hargis’ belongings outside, at which point Hargis allegedly grabbed a silver and black Taurus 9mm pistol and pointed it at her. After a brief de-escalation Hargis put the gun down, but another fight started and Haire retrieved the pistol. The two struggled and Haire says Hargis pushed her away before she fired the fatal shot.
Haire was arrested and charged with domestic violence-related negligent homicide and held in the Okaloosa County Jail on $100,000 bond. Statements differ about Hargis’ level of intoxication; his father said he had only one drink and did not seem intoxicated. Did anyone in the Fort Walton Beach area witness the events that night or have additional information about the dispute?
