Pamela Waynette Bearden, 39, of Okeechobee, Florida, was shot and killed near her home on NE 9th Lane on May 31, 2021. A neighbor’s doorbell camera recorded the incident and was used in the investigation. Family and friends have posted online memorials remembering her and describing the loss to their lives.

Investigators say Venus Bubel shot Bearden; the two women had been involved with the same man. Bubel told authorities she acted because she feared for her safety, citing the man’s alleged drug addiction and abusive behavior. Prosecutors portrayed the killing as stemming from long-term jealousy and hatred rather than an act of self-defense.

Bubel was charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and tampering with evidence. At trial the prosecution sought a life sentence; Bubel was ultimately sentenced to life in prison with additional consecutive terms for the other charges. Pamela’s family gave victim impact statements and continue to honor her memory online.
