Juan Barroso-Muriel, 36, was shot and killed on May 17, 2021, in Mulberry, Florida, after a confrontation at Strapped Transport Towing and Recovery over the towing of a vehicle belonging to his brother-in-law. The vehicle had been towed from Stoll Manor mobile home park, where Strapped Towing had been contracted to remove vehicles parked unlawfully. Juan and his brother-in-law went to the towing company’s storage yard to retrieve the car, and a dispute developed with company owner Michael Shane Denn II and Denn’s brother, Marshall Denn.
During the confrontation Juan got into the vehicle and attempted to drive away. Marshall Denn reportedly approached and struck Juan through the driver’s side window; Juan then drove the vehicle toward the two men and struck Marshall Denn. Michael Shane Denn II then shot Juan, later claiming he feared for his life. Juan died of his injuries, and Michael Shane Denn II was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Investigators found that Strapped Towing had removed multiple vehicles from Stoll Manor in violation of Florida statutes, a fact that helped frame the dispute.
If anyone witnessed the confrontation at the towing yard or has information about the towing practices at Stoll Manor, please come forward.
