Jean Carlos Felix Colon, 24, was shot and killed around midnight on May 2, 2021, at a mobile home park in Lake Alfred, Florida. The confrontation began when Emanuel Herrera, 19, and his 16-year-old sister, Carla Hilario, stopped to look at a vehicle; Felix Colon and his brother Joseph were on their porch and perceived Herrera’s actions as threatening. Felix Colon punched Herrera; Herrera then produced a concealed firearm and fired one shot that struck Felix Colon under his left arm and traveled through his torso, causing his death.

Investigators say multiple witnesses gave conflicting accounts. Both Herrera and Joseph Colon were armed during the altercation; Joseph attempted to shoot Herrera after his brother was hit, but the gun initially malfunctioned, and a later shot missed Herrera and Hilario. Gabriella Chirinos was present and fired a stun gun, adding to the scene’s confusion. Authorities examined claims of self-defense under Florida’s Stand Your Ground statute after Herrera said he believed Felix Colon was armed. The investigation remained ongoing as officials reviewed witness statements and potential charges for concealed firearm possession and other actions.
