Jason Hernandez, 43, was shot and killed on March 26, 2021, on a basketball court off Fred Conner Street in Avon Park, Florida. Deputies arrived after multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting at about 6:15 p.m. and found Hernandez with gunshot wounds; he was taken to a hospital and died shortly afterward.

The Highlands County Sheriff’s Office reported numerous witnesses at the scene and has been interviewing people and collecting leads. A 19-year-old suspect was later charged with second-degree murder; the suspect’s name has not been released.
