I’ve just been reflecting on the role that witnesses played in the tragic death of Deantae Jedarrian Holmes, and it just makes me think about how quickly things can escalate out of control. It must be incredibly difficult for the people who were there that night, especially knowing how they were simply enjoying a casual evening before everything turned tragic in a blink. I can’t imagine the shock and confusion they must’ve felt seeing such a horrific event unfold right before their eyes. It also brings up the question of trauma and how we support witnesses in these situations. They have experienced something that will likely stay with them forever. My heart goes out to everyone affected, especially knowing they now have to relive the event through legal proceedings. I hope they’re getting the help and support needed to process what they've been through. It's so important to keep them in our thoughts along with Deantae’s family and friends. Let's not forget the broader picture of individuals left picking up the pieces after incidents like these happen.
