The sentencing of Jovante Jackson and Michael David Jr. really hit home for me today. I remember the first news reports about Thomas "Marty" Smith, a young man whose life was cut tragically short at a car wash none of us can drive past without thinking of him now. The thought of his family having to relive the pain through the lengthy legal process is unimaginable. While Jovante Jackson’s 40-year sentence and Michael David Jr.'s 22.5 years won't bring Marty back, I hope it offers some comfort to his loved ones. This case has been a stark reminder of the violence some communities face and the impact it has on so many lives. Let's continue to hold each other up and support efforts to keep our neighborhoods safer. My heart is with everyone affected by this senseless act.
