Cody Toumala, 20, of Winter Park, Florida, was shot late the night of September 20, 2020, at the Azure Winter Park apartments near University Boulevard and Semoran Drive. Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at about 11 p.m. and found Toumala with a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to AdventHealth Winter Park and pronounced dead shortly after arrival; the Sheriff’s Office ruled the death a homicide and opened an investigation.

On October 30, 2020, investigators arrested 18-year-old Johnny Vazquez and charged him with first-degree murder with a firearm. Vazquez was booked into the Orange County Jail without bond. Authorities asked the public to come forward with any information to assist the ongoing investigation.
