Deonta Tareeik Bugg, 22, was shot dead on July 15, 2020, in the parking lot of the Days Inn on U.S. Highway 27 in Davenport, Florida. He had been renting a room at the motel and was meeting two people he’d contacted through Snapchat to sell marijuana. A witness said Bugg had a premonition he might be robbed; after first returning to his room and voicing concern, he went back to the suspects’ vehicle and was shot in the chest by one of its occupants, who then fled.

Investigators identified 20-year-old Sedrick Myers and 18-year-old Cory Bowland Jr. as the suspects and linked them to a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup. Detectives allege Bowland borrowed the truck and picked up Myers, and that Myers was the shooter while Bowland was implicated in the crime. Both men were charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, and tampering with evidence and surrendered to authorities.

Questions remain about the circumstances leading up to the meeting and whether anyone else has information about the pickup, the Snapchat contact, or the events in the motel parking lot.
