Jose Manuel Clemente, 45, was shot to death and found face down at a boat yard off 5th Avenue in Stock Island, Key West, on June 15, 2020. Another man, Iliecer Noa, was located nearby with a gunshot wound to his abdomen; Noa survived but suffered severe injuries that required amputation of both legs and an arm. Authorities described the incident as a targeted hit that began with an argument over the return of a rented Mercedes-Benz.
Investigators arrested two brothers, Jose Luis Espinosa Gomez and Mayque Gomez Marin, charging both with second-degree murder and attempted murder. Prosecutors said the confrontation escalated into deadly violence; the defense has contended the defendants acted in self-defense during a volatile encounter. The case generated civil claims as well, with victims’ families pursuing damages from the marina’s property owners and tenant.
Anyone who was at the marina off 5th Avenue on June 15, 2020, or who has information about the confrontation is asked to come forward.
