Shawn M. McGraw, 46, of Cocoa Beach, Florida, was shot and killed on November 12, 2019. He was found in his room at the Fawlty Towers Motel after a guest called 911 reporting a gunshot. McGraw was taken to a local hospital and later died; the medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.
Investigators say the shooting occurred during a planned robbery. Police arrested and charged three Cocoa residents — Lonnie T. Robinson, 24; James B. Byer, 27; and Kaelea A. Wellington, 24 — with first-degree felony murder and robbery with a firearm. According to reports, Wellington arranged to meet McGraw at the motel to repay a debt and let Robinson and Byer into the room, where Robinson allegedly shot McGraw with a shotgun after McGraw didn’t comply. A fourth person, Andrew Sheppard, 35, was later arrested and charged with first-degree felony murder and attempted robbery.
Authorities say cell phone records, security footage, and witness statements were used in the investigation and that indictments were returned. Anyone with information about this case or who knew Shawn is asked to come forward.
